How swiftly does sound travel when the strings hold time with such violence?
Neither skill nor the aeons we are given to learn how to create a melody truly matter. What matters is the space in which the mind becomes aware that time carries its own weight. Its measure or quality is irrelevant — it is simply time.
Try to create ethereal sounds that resonate through the broken string, reaching into nothingness. Let one life pass, or two, or thirty-six thousand; the harmony, beneath the weight of that which never stops, will continue to govern a small and fragile will.
“What, then, is time? If no one asks me, I know; if I wish to explain it to one who asks, I do not know.”
Saint Augustine, Confessions, Book XI.
